SIFL Fall Conference Completed
October 15, 2010
LAKE CHARLES LA. - The Southern Indoor Football League held its fall conference this week at L'Auberge du Lac Casino Resort in Lake Charles, LA. Topics included team marketing, revenue streams, salary cap, and rule modifications. Coaches from several teams along with Commissioner Gary Tufford tweaked the rule book.
"The SIFL has grown up significantly and we are securing partnerships that make sense on and off the football field. I am very excited about our future and the opportunities that lie ahead" said Tufford.
"I'm very pleased with the results that came out of our meetings," said Thom Hager, SIFL president and owner of the Louisiana Swashbucklers. "The owners are committed to making the league one of the best in the country. We're focusing on making indoor football not only affordable but even more fan friendly. Concepts were introduced that will allow fans to become more involved with our games. 2011 promises to be our best season yet as team owners are stronger and savvier than ever."
One of the hottest topics on the agenda was expansion. "We received inquiries from many teams about joining the SIFL since last season," Hager said. "However, we want teams that make sense for this league in future years rather than adding teams just for the sake of growth. Strong ownership is more important to this league than the number of markets. Our expansion efforts will increase the league to many more teams for the 2011 season. We look for stronger, more competitive teams as rivalries continue to develop so that we keep our fans on the edge of their seats."
The new SIFL commissioner, Gary Tufford shared his vision for 2011 and beyond. "With Gary Tufford now in the mix, the SIFL has grown leaps and bounds", said Hager with a relaxed smile. Commissioner Tufford plans on releasing the 2011 schedule in early November.
