I can't recall, but I believe this is the third straight year they've put a team in Houston. The previous two didn't work out, so this one has some bad odds to overcome.

New Ownership Announced For Houston
September 20, 2010
LAKE CHARLES LA - The Southern Indoor Football League welcomed a new ownership group for the Houston market today. The Houston based team will join the SIFL in 2011. This team has no connections to the Houston Lightning, who attempted to join the SIFL in 2010 but closed its doors before the start of the season. The new owners are Steve Hooks and Ivan Tompkins. "We will launch a "Name the Team" contest next week to allow indoor football fans the opportunity to be a part of their team from the very beginning", said Ivan Tompkins. SIFL president Thom Hager welcomed the new team into the league today. "We finally met two men with great character who meet our financial criteria. These men share our vision in bringing affordable family entertainment to the fans of Houston," This market can be the gateway to our Western Division in the years to come." This Houston team will call the Berry Center home for 2011.
Tompkins spoke on the preparations for the upcoming season. "Right now we are in the process of assembling our staff and obtaining equipment," he said. "We will hold our first tryouts around October 9th. We are very excited about joining the SIFL and believe we can assemble a powerhouse worthy of competition." He added that the team colors will be determined once the name has been chosen. Tompkins and Hooks have a short list of candidates for the head coaching position and will make that decision within the next 10 days. Since Tompkins has played professionally he knows many players who would love to play for this team.
