Koyotes’ Head Coach Announces Retirement
Topeka, KS – Head Coach Jim Green announced his retirement to the Koyotes’ front office today. Coach Green—a 3-time APFL championship coach—told Koyotes President Ralph Adams that effective at the end of the current season he would step down as Head Coach.
“Jim (Green) has been the leader of the Koyotes for five years now. His leadership skills, his competitive nature and his love for his team have been an inspiration to me,” said Adams, adding that, “I am proud to call Jim my friend. He will always have a place with the Koyotes.”
Coach Green cited some recent health concerns and wanting to focus on his daytime career and family as the reasons for his decision. Green is the Wellness and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the City of Topeka. He was advised by his doctor to reduce the stress in his life so he decided that it was time to step down as the Head Coach.
“It’s been a great ride and this was not an easy decision,” said Green. “I love football. I loved playing and I love coaching the Koyotes and I am going to love watching them from the stands in the years to come.”
Coach Green left the door open to a possible return in the future but for now he will be in the box with his team but Assistant Head Coach Jeff Summers will act as the Interim Head Coach. Wide Receivers Coach Jerrick Jorgeson will also handle some of the play-calling duties from the field.
Jim Green steps down as the winningest coach in Koyotes history. Over his five-year tenure as Head Coach Green amassed a record, thus far, of 48-13 on his way to winning three APFL Championships. Green started his career as Quarterbacks Coach in the Koyotes inaugural season.
The Koyotes face the Junction City Force Friday night at the Expocentre in the opening round game of the APFL Playoffs. Kickoff is at 7:35 pm. This will be Coach Green’s last game under the lights of Landon Arena.
