Lingerie Football League wants to start a youth league

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Pride beams from the faces of the athletes at Seattle Gymnastics as they jump, flex and bend.
"It makes me so happy, it warms my heart," says mom Tera Figueroa.
Figueroa wants her little girl to be strong, bold and brave. "It's important to me that she tries and she has fun." But when we told her about a new girl's football team headed up by the Lingerie Football League, Figueroa had a different reaction. "Are they gonna wear lingerie, gymnastics outfits or are they gonna wear shorts or a T-shirt?"
The league says girls are enamored by the LFL teams, so it only seems natural they'd start a youth one, fully clothed of course.
"Are they looking up to the football," asks Figueroa. "Or are they looking up to the girls in their pretty outfits?"
Parents at Seattle Gymnastics say it's great to have girls playing football, but what message does the lingerie part send?
"The image that you have to have a beautiful body or you have to have on this thing, I don't think you need that," says Sue Ehling.
The league hasn't given out much detail on the teams, but the founder and chairman Mitchell Mortaza issued this statement on the website, "Obviously the improvement of our game is directly tied into the development of the future LFL athlete. What excites us at the league is seeing the caliber of athletes improve so vastly each season, now imagine in five years when we start fielding athletes that have trained their entire life for the opportunity to play LFL Football."
Seattle Mist player Jessica Hopkins tells us the youth teams may pave that new path. Maybe one day she says, girls won't have to wear lingerie to get people interested.
