Does anyone know how many teams "OFFICIALLY" make the playoffs this season? I can't find it announced anywhere. If anyone has a link to where it was announced (if it was), I'd appreciate it.

well, it would make sense to take the top two teams out of each division... but that's merely speculation on my part

The word I'm getting is 8 total teams, 4 division winners and 4 wild cards. It'd still be nice to see it written somewhere.

This is my first post on this forum, I use to post over on uifan.com before it got shut down. But I really tend to think that some of the leagues just "make it up" as they go along to decide who gets in the playoffs and who doesn't. I tend to agree that 8 teams would be perfect for the IFL, the 4 division winners and 4 wildcards, however I would not object to having having 12 in either, and having a format similar to the NFL where the 1 and 2 seeds get a bye in the 1st round.

I oppose first round byes in the playoffs for these type of leagues. Teams that are good enough for the bye don't need a week off. They should just be happy with home field.

Welcome extreme5.
I like the 12 teams in as well and I don't mind the bye's either.

The way this leagues scheduling has worked out... NO ONE should need a freaking bye before the playoffs. Sioux Falls has a TWO BYE WEEKS BACK TO BACK before their last game.

It will be the top 2 teams in each division. I'd be more in favor of the 4 wild cards, two from each division. that would mean that the weak second place eastern team would get in and the 3rd team in the central, likely a MUCH better team, would be left out. in the UNiteEd conference or whatever it's called... Surely the UIF owners will force this change down your throat later in the year.

It will be the top 2 teams in each division. Ugh, I don't like that too much. I'd like it better if it was, by conference, 2 division winners and the best two of the rest of the conference as wild cards. Since it's not exactly a well balanced schedule though, I can understand just taking the top two from each division. I hope the schedule is more balanced next year though, and the playoff format changed.

Each team gets 4 byes, but a lot of teams have 2-3 byes together. As you know, all the Texas teams started with 3 straight byes. Saginaw has it the toughest though. They end the season with 3 byes in the last 4 weeks. The only way that would be good in my opinion is if they were seriously hobbled and could use the time to get healthy.

Well, as a Beef fan I'd be in favor of it as it looks to me as if the Beef will be that 3rd team the way things look to play out (although it's way early). 12 teams would still be my preferred format, but in the end I'll take what comes.

Im surprised that no one looked on the GOIFL LOL.
1) Number of Teams: A total of twelve (12) teams will earn a seat in the playoffs.
2) Earning a Seat: The three (3) teams with the highest winning percentage in each of the four (4) divisions will make up these 12 teams.
3) Round One: The top team in each of these 4 divisions will earn a first round Bye while the second place team will host the third place team in each division during the first round.
4) Round Two: The first place team in each division will host the winner of the first round game in their division. The winner of this game will be considered the Division Champion (4 total).
5) Round Three: The Division champion from each conference with the highest regular season winning percentage will host the remaining inter-conference division champion. The winner of the games in this round will be considered Conference Champions (2 total).
6) Round Four: The conference champion with the highest regular season winning percentage will host the remaining conference champion in this round. The winner of this game will be considered the league Champion (1 total).
