Awesome.
My thumb felt a little better yesterday so I played a little and managed to get medals in all the Mirror Cups, but only 3 of those are gold. I also played my daughter in the Mushroom Cup in the regular 150 cc category and I actually beat her...lol. I won 2 of the 4 races outright and the other 2 I had the lead each time until a blue shell took me out at the end each time...I hate those blue shells. We played again later and I actually beat my daughter in the Flower Cup as well, coming from behind to beat her in Wario's Gold Mine (which I usually suck at) and won that cup thanks to Wario's Gold Mine...lol. So I'm getting better. My daughters friends and the kids she plays with at her daycare can't beat her, so I feel good about giving her competition, which was my goal. I still absolutely hate whoever created this game though. When I was playing the Mirror Cups I was cursing up a storm again, I can't help it, this game is so frustrating.

Well, even though my thumb still hurts I tackled the Mirror Mode again and finally got all Golds for all the cups. I went with a lighter character in some of the cups for faster acceleration speeds and that actually worked out. Usually I like the heavier characters, mostly Donkey Kong, since they have higher top speeds and the fact their weight can push most other carts aside very easily.
Now I just have to do Time Trials to beat the normal staff ghost time, which then unlocks an expert staff ghost time, which in turn I have to beat. Doing that will get me the rest of the unlockable characters and vehicles, except for a few. The remaining few unlockables I have to get by upgrading my cup rankings to at least 1 star each (not easy...you need to win each race in a cup and also get great times to get at least a 1 star). If I can do it though, I'll have all the unlockables. Actually, if you go into online mode after that, I believe there are three more unlockables you can get, but I'm not going to worry about that right now. For now, it's Time Trial time.

Finished off my golds on the 150's. Surprisingly, I got 'em on the Special cup and flower cup by winning the Rainbow and Wario Gold Mine races. (typically don't finish in the top half of those, but the heavy cart and determination paid off. **** game will always be frustrating though. I couldn't believe how many flying blue bombs blew me up just short of the finish line in multiple races last night. Nothing like going from 1st to 6th with the finish line in sight. Grrrr.
Up next - mirror mode.

I couldn't believe how many flying blue bombs blew me up just short of the finish line in multiple races last night. Nothing like going from 1st to 6th with the finish line in sight. Grrrr. Up next - mirror mode. Yeah, I like the heavy cart for Wario's Gold Mine and Rainbow Road. I'm actually improving on those, whereas before I was falling off all the road all the time. Wow, the Time Trials really do help overall. When you race against the Expert Ghost you see how an expert takes the course and learn little tips here and there. I learned that when you start off in first place with a bike (you should always choose a bike except for the Mine and Rainbow Road), it's good practice to time hitting the 2 button right when the number 2 starts to disappear and to also do a wheelie for an excellent boost out the starting gate to remain in first and get a good jump. Doing it in 4th position or worse is hit and miss since if you bump into someone doing a wheelie you can lose your momentum and then get bumped by everyone behind you and end up in 12th out the gates. I do more wheelies on the track wherever possible now as well since they give you a small boost, but over time it adds up and can make the difference between a small and a big lead. It takes practice if your using the wheel to keep the wheelie straight though. Wheelies and tricking on jumps is a great way to stay in first. I did all the Time Trials on the Mushroom Cup today and couldn't beat the Expert Ghost each time, but oh so close. Man, those guys are fast. The Expert Ghost was drifting, but I can't seem to get that art down using the wheel. After that I went back to the Mushroom Cups in the 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc to upgrade those ratings to 2 stars. I got the 50cc (which is so easy now) and 100cc upgraded to 2 stars, but each time on the 150cc in the last race I kept getting bombarded by blue shells, then a red shell and a pow or some other combination right before the finish...arrgghhh, pissed me off. So I'm stuck at an A rating for the 150cc, but I'll try again later tonight. I'm also finding out lighter characters are better for time trials, so I'm going to have to stop using Donkey Kong so much since his weight factor doesn't really matter in a time trial if there's no one to bump. You know, I absolutely hate this game, but somehow I've become addicted because I refuse to let it beat me.

Since I was doing the time trials to get better, you know my daughter had to get in on the action too, just to show me up. I did all the time trials in the Mushroom Cup, but couldn't beat the Expert Ghost in any of the 4 races. Once you complete a race it creates a ghost for you and that's your best time, until you beat it and then it updates your ghost with your new best time. So my daughter got on the first race (Luigi Circuit) and tried to beat my time and on the fourth time she succeeded and was jumping up and down and was happy as a lark. I just laughed. After she went to bed I set out to take back the best time in our family for that race and on my fourth attempt I got it back. I can't wait to rub it in when she gets up...lol. With competition like this, sooner or later we'll beat the expert times.
These are our times:
Mushroom Cup
Luigi Circuit 1:19:419 Expert Ghost 1:20:359 Banana Cat 1:20:797 Purple Bear
Moo Moo Meadows 1:25:909 Expert Ghost 1:33:702 Banana Cat
Mushroom Gorge 2:01:011 Expert Ghost 2:04:773 Banana Cat
Toads Factory 2:05:593 Expert Ghost 2:13:567 Banana Cat

Mirror courses . . . , that was a little odd after all this racing.
Ran the first four courses and got 2 golds, 1 silver and nothing on the Flower cup. Dang gold mine cost me a metal in that one. I'll have to wait until Thursday for more cart action, got the ole dart ball going on tonight.
How do you check your ratings (a,b,c, star(s)) in the races?

Mirror courses definitely take getting used to. Sometimes you feel like you're on the regular track and end up turning the wrong way, so it takes some practice.
2 Golds in 4 tries is very good. It took me longer than that to get my first two golds.
To check your ratings, first choose Grand Prix, then choose which level (50cc, 100cc, 150cc, or Mirror), then when you get to the screen where you choose which cup to race in, hold the pointer over a particular cup and it will display information on it such as your rank/rating. Ratings are alphabetical (lowest is E I believe, with A being the highest) and then the top three ratings are stars (1-3 stars). I've yet to get a 3 star, must have to just kick ass or something and not get hit by anything at all (almost impossible). As far as gold medals, if you win all 4 races in a cup that will give you anywhere from a A to a 3 star ranking. If you lose a race you could slip lower. The lowest ranking I've seen is E when I got a bronze medal and barely won with 42 or 43 points.

(Kidding) With competition like this, sooner or later we'll beat the expert times. THAT's THE CORRECT WAY! I got 2 Stars finally in the 150cc and Mirror modes of the Mushroom Cup, so I have 2 Stars in all 4 modes of the Mushroom Cup now. I retried the 50cc and kicked major tuckus in trying to get 3 Stars, but didn't get it. You must have to not get hit by anything to get 3 Stars or something, I don't know, but it seems impossible. So 2 Stars is fine with me and that's my goal for all cups. When I was finishing the Mirror Mode on the last race of the Mushroom Cup it was funny, it rained 2 blue shells (but they got me in not bad places this time so it didn't matter due to my huge lead) and I finished in first. I also had to dodge two green shells right before the finish line (someone must've had the three green shells or something). The time before that though I got hammered so bad I thought I was under a miitary attack. It feels good when you take what they throw at you and still make it and get 2 Stars.
I did the time trials in the Mushroom cup for the first race again and didn't improve my time at all. I experimented with different characters and vehicles and I think the heaviest characters are the best for my style with the wheel since they go the fastest and I have better times with them. I use the Flame Runner bike as well so I can do wheelies to get boosts. I plan to give it another go tomorrow, I was so close to beating the ghost with the Boo character today.
After another go at the time trials it will be on to the next cup to get 2 Stars in all modes.

Well, started on trying to improve my rankings on the Shell Cup today. 50 and 100cc were already 2 stars. I almost had 150cc at 2 stars, until I got really hammered in the last race by a blue shell (the bane of my Mario Kart existence) and a well timed POW that knocked me off the track during the end of the second lap. It took me all of third lap to get first back right before the finish line (thanks to a wheelie). I have to believe that was enough to prevent me from getting a 2 star though as I only got 1 star. So I did time trials on the shell cup tracks and was only unable to unlock 2 of the 4 expert ghosts. I'll try to unlock the other 2 experts later. Beating them is another thing, right now I'll be happy to unlock them.

I saw the complete Band Kit at Target today and though I think I would have rather had Rock Band I went ahead and got it, since you cant find Rock Band 2 for Wii and even seeing this was rare.

I already have the Guitar Hero disk, already had two guitars and a microphone, so I all I need now is the rest and I'll continue buying them separately.

That makes sense, in another month or so I might buy another guitar, but then I will have to buy another controller or two so I can use everything.
So hoping that the Guitar Hero Mettalica will work with the microphone and the drum kit.
