COLORADO ICE SIGN 2009 BCS CHAMPION LINEBACKER ERYK ANDERS
(Fort Collins, CO) The
Colorado ICE are proud to announce the signing of two new players
and the resigning
of five players to the ICE organization. The players are LB Eryk Anders, RB
T.J. Pitts, QB Sherard Ellis, DB Idly Etienne, DB Nick Oppenneer, DL Dominic Applehans, and
WR Cory Sleeth.
Anders is a 6’2”, 235 lb linebacker from the University of Alabama. CBS Sports rated Anders as
the 45 th best outside linebacker prospect in the nation for the 20092010
season. Anders comes
to the ICE bringing a championship tradition with him as he was a starter for the 20092010
Alabama national championship team. During his four year career, Anders had 98 total tackles,
23 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, and 1 interception. Anders finished tied for 10 th in the SEC in both
tackles for loss and sacks. After his prolific college career, Anders was invited to attend a rookie
minicamp
with the Cleveland Browns.
Pitts is a 5’10”, 215 lb running back from the University of Memphis. During his four year
career at Memphis, Pitts played in 29 games. In those 29 games Pitts accumulated 922 yards
rushing (4.4 per rush average) and 2 rushing touchdowns. Pitts was also used on special teams
averaging 22.1 yards per kick return. Pitts’ career highs include 19 rushes for 110 yards (5.8
avg) and 1 touchdown, which all came in a game against SMU. For his senior season, Pitts
finished second on the team in rushing yards (343); also ranking him fourteenth in Conference
USA.
Ellis is a 6’2”, 185 lb quarterback from Lane College. Ellis may be better listed as an athlete as
he played four different positions for the ICE last season. Ellis started the season at QB, moved
to WR, moved to DB, and even played a little RB. In 11 games for the ICE, Ellis accumulated
412 passing yards, 8 passing touchdowns, 190 rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdowns, 3 catches,
25 receiving yards, and 10 total tackles. This versatility will be looked upon again as the ICE
seek to improve on the 2010 season.
Etienne is a 5’11”, 205 lb safety from Alcorn State University. Etienne was one of the most
productive players for the ICE the entire 2010 season and again will be looked upon to lead the
defense. Etienne finished the season ranked second on the team and eighth in the league with his
96 total tackles. Etienne tied for first on the team in interceptions (2) and was first in pass breakups
(8). Etienne started in all but one game which he missed due to his graduation.

Oppenneer is a 5’10”, 180 lb defensive back from Colorado State University. CBS Sports rated
Oppenneer as the 46 th best free safety prospect in the nation for the 20092010
season.
Oppenneer only played in 2 games for the ICE but made an immediate impact. Oppenneer
finished the season with 11 total tackles and was a large factor in holding one of the IFL’s top
receivers, Lonnie Sanders, to zero catches in the second half of the final game in Fairbanks.
Applehans is a 6’2”, 250 lb defensive end from Mesa State College. Applehans came to the ICE
late in the season but made his presence felt early and often as he started every game he was a
part of. Applehans played in 3 games for the ICE accumulating 11 total tackles and 3 sacks.
Applehans finished ranked first on the team with his 3 sacks and tied for fifth in the league in
sacks per game (1.0). His consistent pressure was vital in the ICE gaining their first victory of
the year against the TriCities
Fever.
Sleeth is a 6’1”, 202 lb wide receiver from the University of Nebraska Kearny. Sleeth is one of
the few veterans with the ICE and will be looked upon to lead the offense and team in the right
direction. Sleeth played in all but one game for the ICE, finishing third in receptions (36), first
in receiving yards (479), second in receiving touchdowns (10), and second in receiving yards per
game (36.8). Sleeth also served as a goal line running back, scoring 3 touchdowns on the year.

Gaston is a 6’4”, 230 lb linebacker from Northeastern State in Oklahoma. CBS Sports rated
Gaston as the 33 rd best inside linebacker in the nation for the past year. During his 2 years at
Northeastern State, Gaston tallied 183 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, and 1 interception.
Before transferring to Northeastern State, Gaston played at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Junior
College where he recorded 154 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and 6 sacks in only nine games.
Lee is a 6’2”, 205 lb quarterback from Southern University. Because of his 4.48 speed CBS
Sports projected Lee to go to the NFL as a WR. Lee ended his prolific career at Southern by
being named a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, which is given to the best FCS player in the
nation. During his career at Southern, Lee amassed 8,144 passing yards, 70 passing touchdowns,
1,408 rushing yards, and 20 rushing touchdowns. Lee’s 8,144 passing yards is the most all time
at Southern.
Matthews is a 6’3”, 245 lb wide receiver from Southern University. Matthews began his college
career as a quarterback and served as the main backup to Bryant Lee for his first three years.
Before his senior year Matthews was moved to tight end to take advantage of his athletic ability.
Matthews was a very versatile player during his career at Southern and amassed 620 passing
yards, 4 passing touchdowns, 159 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown, 27 receptions, 434
receiving yards, and 6 receiving touchdowns.

Jarrell Holman, OL Robert Norris, DB Marvin Haynes, DL Marcus Kennedy, and DL Bryan
Wick.
Brooks is a 5’11”, 185 lb wide receiver from Stephen F. Austin University. During his two years
at SFAU, Brooks had 186 receptions for 1,939 yards and 10 touchdowns. During his senior year
Brooks smashed the school record for receptions with 118 for 1,076 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Was named 2009 All Southland Conference First Team after his senior season and was 2008
Southland Conference Newcomer of the year after his junior year. Prior to his record breaking at
SFAU, Brooks played wide receiver and quarterback at Central Michigan University.
Holman is a 6’0”, 200 lb safety from Arizona State University. CBS Sports rated Holman as the
32 nd best free safety in the nation for this past season. During his 2 year career at ASU, Holman
amassed 3 interceptions for 69 yards and 1 touchdown. He also had 57 tackles with 2 tackles for
loss. As a senior, Holman tied for the team lead with his 3 interceptions which also ranked 7 th in
the Pac10.
Before ASU, Holman attended Phoenix Junior College where he had 50 tackles
with 7 tackles for loss in only 8 games.
Norris is a 6’5”, 325 lb offensive lineman from Morgan State University. During his 2 years at
Morgan State, Norris started 20 out of 23 games, ending with him being a two time All MEAC
2 nd Team Conference award winner. After his senior season Norris was invited to be a member
of the 2009 HBCU All Star Game which consists of the nations best players from the
Historically Black Colleges & Universities. Before transferring to Morgan State, Norris was a
member of the Virginia Tech football team that went 103
and lost to Georgia in the ChickfilA
Bowl.
Haynes is a 6’2”, 215 lb safety from Fresno State University. CBS Sports rated Haynes as the
57 th best free safety in the nation for this past season. Haynes played in 38 games during his
career at Fresno State accumulating 2 interceptions, 121 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 pass
breakups,
and 1 forced fumble. Haynes ranked near the top of his team in tackles his final three
seasons as he was a leader on defense and special teams.

Kennedy is a 6’1”, 300 lb defensive lineman from St. Augustine’s College. CBS Sports rated
Kennedy as the 90 th best defensive tackle in the nation for 20082009.
During his career,
Kennedy accumulated 127 tackles, 38.5 tackles for loss, 16.5 sacks, and 1 interception. As a
senior, Kennedy had 61 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks. His senior season ended with
him being named a first team member of the 2008 DII Coaches’ All American Team.
Wick is a 6’3”, 305 lb defensive lineman from Bemidji State. Wick came to the ICE midway
through the season and was an instant presence on the defensive line. Wick played in 8 games
for the ICE and amassed 15 total tackles, ranking him 12 th on the team. He was a versatile
defensive linemen as he played both tackle and end during the season.
