Bandits 2011 schedule includes 5 road games and 7 home games. That is better than 7 road and 5 home, but just weird. Not bad, just weird.

You're playing two road-only teams (that's the discrepancy between the amount of home and away games)...easy wins.
Those games are the designated get drunk and barely pay attention games since they'll be huge blowouts. They're great for padding stats and skewing reality. The only fear in those games is that an important player might get hurt in a meaningless game.

Bandits are playing the league-less San Jose Wolves for one of their non-league (or will they count it...with the APFL you never know) games.
The Wolves were part of the AIFA in 2010, then the league broke into two and they were going to play in the AIFA West for 2011. The AIFA West folded since only two of the five teams they had were solid (Yakima and Reno). The Wolves had problems relocating to Stockton and securing an arena deal, the Oregon franchise never solidified, and Tucson decided to wait for 2012. Reno is also playing an independent schedule this season, too bad they couldn't get the Bandits as opponents.

After looking at what's publicized for the APFL schedule so far, I do have to say it looks 10 times better than it ever has in the past.
So far only Sioux City's and Springfield's are published, but gone are the many semi-pro matches that used to dominate the league schedule. Only one game on both of the teams schedules is against the provisional Florida Scorpions or Kansas City Matadors teams...a big time improvement. I still don't see why they couldn't get rid of the Florida/Kansas City teams altogether though as they're only playing 2-3 games max apiece as league teams...ugh.
Sioux City plays Iowa and Kansas three times and Springfield and Mid-Missouri two times. The better option would be to play every team three times each and cut out the Florida/Kansas City games (or keep them and call them what they are...exhibition).
It's a step in the right direction though and maybe next year they can clean it up even more and make it even better. I like Sioux City's scheduling of San Jose as an extra match, they went out and got one of the best independent teams out there to play against for an extra home game. It probably would've worked better at the beginning of the season though instead of the last week before the playoffs start (you have to worry about needless injuries now).
What I'd like to see next year for Sioux City would be an exhibition game against the Omaha Beef or the Sioux Falls Storm (or both).

The playoffs start one week after the regular season on 2 Jul and the championship is a week later on 9 Jul. Under that format it would either be a 3 or 4 team playoff, which is way better than last year when all teams made the playoffs (including league member Junction City who only played 4 out of 5 scheduled road games and lost them all for an 0-4 record).

This is lame. I would rather play the best and lose a close game than play teams that are not teams and win by a large margin.

Make sure you address your thank you's to Bob Scott C/O Sioux City Bandits 401 Gordon Drive Sioux City, IA 51101
I think Bob's going to be surprised when the fans don't support the new league like he's assuming they will. And playing with the glass up is plain stupid.. Bandits are down to 5-700 a game by the end of the season. they will finish 2nd or third in the league, and lose at Iowa in the playoffs.

I was going to say, where did you hear the glass would be up. Glad to hear it won't be, that'd be really strange...but no stranger than Richmond playing outdoors I guess.

Springfield has glass up on one side, but they have to because the stands are on that side and they don't want people falling down onto the field.

Springfield has glass up on one side, but they have to because the stands are on that side and they don't want people falling down onto the field. That could be for player protection as well depending on how high the stands are.

I remember a video from way back in I think the AFL where a woman fell onto the field. Anyone remember that?

The average Bandit fan will care about who we play if we are winning, and I doubt the lesser league will show in overall attendance. After all you can pay around $10 a ticket and get 2 shirts a game. That is $5 a shirt per seat. Not a bad deal.
